Dubai reveals the world's fastest ambulance
When every second counts
Known for having the fastest, tallest and biggest things, Dubai has unveiled the new sports car turned ambulance to its city's streets. The sleek vehicle will allow paramedics to travel at speeds of up to 300km/h, cutting off around three to four minutes from their response time.
The new fleet, which was unveiled in Dubai's Gitex, also includes two Ford Mustangs, with a new Corvette on the way.
The Lotus Evora is now being displayed around several of Dubai's touristic areas, including the Jumeirah Beach Residences and Burj Khalifa, before being put into full operation by the end of 2014. Before using the $160,000 vehicle, around 50 of Dubai's paramedics will have to undergo driving lessons and tests. "One second could be the difference between life and death," stated one of the paramedics.
The two-seater Lotus will not be able to transport patients but will act in a similar way to the first responders in the UK, and will allow paramedics to travel faster than usual for initial first aid.
