1958 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster goes on auction tomorrow
January 16th to 17th
The RM auction in Arizona, which is set to begin on January 16 is offering the chance to purchase the rare 1958 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster. At the beginning of the 1950's a US importer, Max Hoffman campaigned for the Germans to produce a road version of the W194 racer. When the 300SL was launched in 1954 at the New York Auto Show it was a massive hit. The roadster version was established in 1957 where most were sold in the US, persuading the American's that Mercedes could produce quality sports cars.
The 300SL for auction tomorrow has a light blue exterior and red leather interior. Having been entirely restored, it offers a recherché Becker Mexico short wave radio, two piece fitted luggage and the original owners manual.
Alexander Weaver, car specialist at RM Auction had this to say about the extra exciting lot: "The iconic 300SL has always been a popular model among collectors and drivers alike, "he went on to add: "Demand continues to rise as they embody the perfect combination of drivability, collectability, and styling. This particular car is finished in a striking and rare factory colour combination and following a recent freshening by noted marque experts, is ready for showing or touring."
The auction starts tomorrow (January 16) at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa - for more details visit the official website here.
