Time check: Hermès Arceau Pocket Ailes et Ecailles
Engraving and enamelling
French luxury house Hermès has revealed another horological wonder in the Arceau Pocket Ailes et Ecailles watch. Combining the highly-skilled processes of both engraving and enamelling, as well as the art of scarab beetle elytra marquetry, the two-piece limited edition pocket watch reflects the maison's high level of craftsmanship and artisanship.
Starting with a gold plate, skilled engravers outline the intricate shape before handing it over to the enamellers who carefully drop glass powder onto the sketch, giving it life with vivid colours in shades of blue and red. Following that, elements of the elytra are then precisely placed on the dial, offering a shimmering gleam. Only then will the finished dial be acquainted with its white gold case. Meanwhile, the transparent sapphire caseback allows a peek into the mechanical heart as the alligator cord strap and pouch round off the finishing touches.
