SIHH 2017 spotlight: Van Cleef & Arpels
Van Cleef & Arpels provided a little fairydust at SIHH 2017 with the highly anticipated unveiling of its Lady Arpels Papillon Automate watch. Marked as one of the watches to watch for 2017, the coveted timepiece reflects the brand's association with nature, emphasised by the exceptional fluttering butterfly on the dial.
Further reflecting its Enchanting Nature theme, Van Cleef & Arpels also embarked on a special project, the result of which is the stunning Automate Fée Ondine, named by the maison to be its first Extraordinary Object. Showcasing watch-making savoir faire, the clock combines craftsmanship with an element of story-telling highlighted by the subtle and graceful movements of the intricate elements.
Away from the ethereal world, Van Cleef & Arpels also presented haute jewellery watches, epitomised by the Heure Marine watch. Dominated by blue sapphires, including two Sri Lankan-sourced pieces weighing 27.34 carats, the middle portion – also bedecked in precious stones – flips open to reveal the mother-of-pearl dial. A piece of emerald serves as both a pop of colour as well as the opening mechanism.
Other note-worthy unveilings by Van Cleef & Arpels at SIHH 2017 include the Charms Extraordinaire Fée Rose De Nuit, Charms Extraordinaire Fée Sakura, Ruby Cadenas and Cerf-Volant Long necklace timepieces.
