OMEGA Globemaster: The world's first Master Chronometer
There's a new standard of excellence
OMEGA has presented the Globemaster, essentially the world's first master chronometer. So what makes a watch, a master chronometer? Put it simply, this watch has undergone a secondary set of quality control tests, ensuring only the highest of standards are met.
Typically, high-end Swiss chronograph watches are put under the microscope at Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC), the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute. While this has remained the industry standard for years, OMEGA has taken the industry standard one step further, employing the help of the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS) to institute a new set of quality assurance.
"We all know about the importance of beautiful products, history and innovation. But one other thing is so important; that's trust. Trust for our consumers," said Swatch Group CEO Nick Hayek. By working with an independent organisation such as METAS, we can be transparent for the consumer, and reconfirm that the Swiss watch industry is the leader in precision and innovation."
This new METAS testing, if incorporated as a secondary measure, allows watchmakers the ability to further promote the quality of their watches, while the consumer can be guaranteed that the watches they are buying are built to last.
This is a defining moment in Swiss watch-making and whether two certifications will become the norm remains unclear. Whichever the case, it can only be good for the consumer.
