IWC's new watch is dedicated to the Galapagos Islands
IWC Schaffhausen has launched the Aquatimer Chronograph Edition La Cumbre Volcano, a watch dedicated to the volcano of the same name in the Galapagos Islands. Limited to only 500 pieces, the timepiece is a show of solidarity with efforts focused on combating the issues facing the Galapagos archipelago.
The Swiss luxury watchmaker has been working with the Charles Darwin Foundation for the past seven years to preserve the fragile ecosystem in the Pacific Ocean and the watch is dedicated to the La Cumbre volcano on the island of Fernandina, the most active volcano within the area.
The internal rotating bezel, central seconds and minute hand of the chronograph display are dark red in colour to symbolise seething magma while the engraving on the case back shows the volcano erupting.
The IWC Schaffhausen Aquatimer Chronograph Edition La Cumbre Volcano is priced at Dhs45,000 and part of the proceeds from sales is used to support the Charles Darwin Foundation. Availability is still unconfirmed.
