Welcome to Dubai Watch Week

Horlogerie inauguration begins

A week long watch celebration commences with a collection of limited edition must-see exhibitions

Dubai Watch Week has begun and there's an unparalleled line-up for the inaugural event. Speaking at the launch, which is a joint collaboration between Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority and Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève, was Melika Yazdjerdi, Director of Dubai Watch Week who with a warm welcome introduced Hind Seddiqi, who announced: "We're excited to launch Dubai Watch Week. Ahmed Seddiqi and Sons is presenting our tribute to the watch industry, which has been the backbone of the business for 65 years. We want to educate the people who are interested in collecting watches of the secrets, the craftsmanship."

Following Hind's introduction Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority said: "Dubai Watch Week puts the spotlight on horology. It's serves as a platform of vibrant ideas and it's an international hub. Watchmaking is an art. For centuries watchmakers have taken horlogerie to the wrist. Its about passion and emotion. I hope you'll feel the raw effect when you look at these amazing creations."

Also on display during the week are a pre-selected collection of state of the art watches. "It's a cultural event that is dedicated to promote watchmaking as an art. It invites you to discover the 72 pieces of the year in the running to win the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève award, which takes place in Geneve on October 29, 2015," said Carine Maillard, Director of Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève.

Rounding out the buzz of the launch event was MB&F's Maximilian Busser, who said: "The creators you're going to meet here this week are endangered species. They create not by following trends or markets, but to express themselves. They spend years trying to transfer an art that is a dying form. An Artisan. It's a sanctuary. You're going to be able to meet them outside their jungle. "

Dubai Watch Week runs October 18-22, 2015 with workshops, talks and exhibitions at DIFC and The Dubai Mall.
