Baselworld 2016: Monsieur de Chanel
One for the men
Chanel has unveiled the Monsieur de Chanel watch at Baselworld 2016, its first ever men's timepiece. Since Chanel forayed into the luxury watch industry, it had always produced stunning pieces for women, embellishing them with precious stones and luxurious materials. But now, Chanel is swimming against the current because at a time when other known manufacturers are focusing on adding to their women's collections, Chanel is introducing one for its male customers.
The Monsieur though is not a watch for mere diversification; it's been treated and created by the now Chanel-owned Romain Gauthier, a master watchmaker and supplier of movements for many of Chanel's horological peers. The Monsieur's mechanical heart is the first to be made in-house by the maison and the whole watch is the first to be produced and assembled within its own grounds.
The classic front features a clean dial with an hour display window and gold plated hands, while the transparent back allows the wearer to appreciate the technological ingenuity in all its glory, all 170 individual components of it. Rounding off this debut men's timepiece is the sleek alligator strap.
