Minimal jewellery definitely makes a statement according to Gaia Repossi

Simple yet radical designs
During Paris Fashion Week we sat with Gaia Repossi – a third generation jeweller, daughter of master jeweller Alberto Repossi and grand daughter of Constantin Repossi – at Repossi's chic Vendôme address to talk minimalist statement making through simple yet radical designs...

What kind of references do you drawn upon for inspiration?

I would say that they are more visual influences, or visual revelations. In a way I function with systems, kind of like architects. With infinite solutions from references, I find a repetition that has a precise order.

Personally, I think you’re an intellectual icon. How would you describe your personal aesthetic?

Thank you. I believe that one defines oneself by style. I would say when you are a designer, it’s like a signature. I also like when there’s a balance and a contrast, such as feminine and masculine.

Tell me about your artistic approach for Repossi?

It’s a field of research. I question classics by reinventing them and sometimes by pure abstraction.

How do you find modernity in opulence?

There is a balance and equilibrium of shapes. For me, minimal doesn’t mean understated. I actually seek statement in very simple gestures, or simple yet radical designs with the highest refinement and luxury.

Tell us about your current collection presented this past Paris Fashion Week in your very chic show room 6 place Vendôme?

The Blast collection recalls the recurrent patterns of creation I use, like stacking large shapes that recall a tribal aesthetic. It was also an exercise of using bare stones.

Who do you design for?

I design for everybody. I think that our pieces appeal to all ages.

Which four Repossi pieces do you love the most?

I’ve chosen pieces from Antifer and Serti sur Vide because to me they are timeless. I like the idea of having a piece of jewellery that you can wear throughout the ages, that will still be relevant in 10, 20 or 50 years.
