Chanel celebrates the 90th anniversary of ‘Bijoux de Diamants’
In 1932, Gabrielle Chanel disrupted the jewellery industry by becoming the first to reveal a High Jewellery collection. It was a time that shortly came after the Great Depression's Black Thursday (in 1929) and it pushed the world into some of the darkest years we've ever seen. But, Gabrielle Chanel saw these sombre times as motivation to signal the purity of light and launched the world's first High Jewellery collection, "Bijoux de Diamants".
Marking a milestone for Chanel, the trust of the Diamond Corporation Ltd. Sales of diamonds had put their trust in the creative talents of Gabrielle (then, who was at the height of her fame for fashion and couture) to revive the diamond industry, and she succeeded. It transformed an entire industry and revitalized her era – and it couldn't have come at a better time.
It's quite ironic to think that now, as we enter 2022 post the most challenging times of the pandemic, we've reached the 90th anniversary of Chanel's "Bijoux de Diamants" collection – which also couldn't have arrived at a better time as we all need something to dazzle at.
To kick off celebrations, Chanel launched the ‘Allure Céleste’ necklace – a heavenly masterpiece that intertwines some of the Founder's most favourite motifs (the moon, the sun and comets) in a beautiful fluid design. It's the first piece that was released as part of the new '1932' collection, which looks back at the original high jewellery collection.
Staying true to some of the collection's transformable nature, the ‘Allure Céleste’ necklace features the spirit of movement, freedom and flexibility, all whilst staying true to its form – offering a variety in the ways you can wear it. Complete with round-cut diamonds, an oval sapphire and pear-cut diamonds, it can be worn in multiple ways (think a chic brooch or hair accessory, as well a shorter necklace).
