PFW Fall/Winter 2018: Day 1 Highlights
Dior and Saint Laurent staged noteworthy shows
Paris Fashion Week is probably the most highly anticipated event during the fashion month calendar thanks to its stellar line-up of showcasing brands.
Now that New York, London and Milan Fashion Week are over, Paris hosted a slew of achingly cool shows on the first day including Dior and Saint Laurent, and their collections are definitely a must-see.
What you need to know: Dior always opens Paris Fashion Week in true luxe style and this Fall/Winter '18 season is no different. Maria Grazia Chiuri expertly translated her political inspirations and 1968 influences in everything, from the collection to the setup to the mirrored ceilings.
The autumnal collection continued to feature the brand's signature elements including voluminous silhouettes, traditional suits, feminine shirtdresses and strong denim cuts — all adorned with a patchwork motif, mosaics, embroideries and complemented by the ultimate accessories.
Key runway items: Channeling a strong feminine aesthetic, as per usual, the collection included a new range of chunky belts, cowboy boots, handbags, eyewear and hooded caps (building on the “balaclava” trend that has emerged this season).
What you need to know: Anthony Vaccarello took a smokey approach to designing Saint Laurent's F/W'18 collection and despite the freezing temperatures, the designer proved that LBD's, short shorts and leather ensembles were the way to go.
It girls Kaia Gerber, Mica Arganaraz, Selena Forest, Loane Normand and Cara Taylor marched down the runway, towards the glittering Eiffel Tower, dressed in sheer black tights, boxy blazers, floral-printed jackets, black mini-dresses, capes and strong shoulder silhouettes.
Wishlist item: Last season, it was the designers sparkling knee-high boots that stole the show but this season, it's the chunky street-wise platform booties we want, like, now.
