Paris Fashion Week S/S’19: Day one highlights

It has officially begun
Bonjour Paris! The fash pack have landed in the City of Lights ready for a full day of S/S'19 reveals...

Paris Fashion Week has officially begun and with a jam-packed schedule of coveted brands and designers showcasing their Spring/Summer ’19 collections back to back, there’s plenty to see and digest. Day one hosted two heavy-hitters including Dior and Gucci, as well as Jacquemus and Dubai-based designer, Kristina Fidelskaya.

Take a look at our favourite looks from their collections here…

Jacquemus

What you need to know: Simon Porte Jacquemus showcased his latest S/S’19 collection on the opening day of Paris Fashion Week and the looks were as refreshing as they were relaxed. With loose silhouettes that reflected the designer’s influences from his childhood memories from the South of France, the pieces were captivating with one-shouldered gowns, shapely trenches, signature shirts, pareo dresses and swimwear too.

Summer must-have: Last season it was all about the oversized hat. But this season it’s all about the beach bag. The bigger, the better.

Kristina Fidelskaya

What you need to know: Kristina Fidelskaya brought her creativeness to Paris for the S/S’19 season and delivered a collection that was fit for powerful women. With silhouettes that merged masculine and feminine elements, the collection came complete in an almost utilitarian colour palette and featured sleeveless blazers, mesh-meets-metallic separates, monochrome suits and maxi skirts.

Did you know: Kristina Fidelskaya is a Dubai-based designer and is one of a handful of regional designers presenting their collections on the Paris Fashion Week schedule.

Gucci

What you need to know: Alessandro Michele’s Spring/Summer ’19 was brilliantly executed at the Théâtre Le Palace overnight and in addition to the ready-to-wear strutting the runway (or stairs leading up to the stage), the show was a full performance complete with a movie and a musical performance by none other than Jane Birkin. Models appeared dressed in Michele’s brilliant creations that consisted of fringed maxi dresses, structured blazers, two-tone shirts, Dolly Parton-printed denim, checkered coats and so much more.

Accessories highlight: Whilst Gucci is known for its double G logos, statement ready-to-wear pieces and out-of-this-world creations, the brand is heavily popular in the accessories department, too. With several references inspiring the accessories, our favourites were the hats inspired by singer-songwriter Janis Joplin, Mickey Mouse handbags, chunky soled trainers, statement sunnies and, of course, the cockatoo.
