Spring/Summer 15: The Models
It goes without saying to anyone with an interest in the fashion industry that the key model-related event of the Spring/Summer 15 season was, of course, the catwalk return of Australian Gemma Ward, following her career high in the mid-2000s.
After a brief return to campaigns lately, the 26-year-old opened the show at Prada with no prior warning, and as she passed the front row and the audience began to whisper, the news threatened to eclipse the entire craft-focussed collection created by Miuccia Prada: A very discreet and demure runway comeback indeed.

Following Milan we wondered whether Ward would pop up again in Paris, but unfortunately she was only to be seen, albeit twice, at Prada. We don't doubt that magazines will jump at the renewed chance to shoot with her though, as following her six-year hiatus from the catwalk, she has occasionally appeared within the pages of the odd glossy here and there.
Gemma Ward, Sasha Pivovarova, Lily Donaldson
And she was not the only 'returnee' to the scene. Her fellow doll-faced friend Lily Donaldson appeared at Diane von Furstenberg, Topshop Unique and Ports 1961. Plus Sasha Pivovarova, who has stayed out of the limelight in recent years, not counting campaigns with Chloé for AW14 and Saint Laurent Cruise 14, was seen ever-so briefly at Balenciaga. However the model didn't make the prime cut of opening or closing the show, leading fans of the Russian fashion star to call Alexander Wang's use of her a 'waste'.
Jessica Stam, Roos Abels, Natasha Poly
Jessica Stam also made something of a comeback, the first time by way of closing for Public School in New York, then at Marc Jacobs and on to several other major names, including David Koma's first show for Mugler. Vlada Roslyakova flashed up on our radar just once at Ralph Lauren, whereas Natasha Poly ruled at two shows, triumphantly opening for Pucci and appearing at Givenchy.
But even Poly's refreshed appearance at Givenchy could not distract from an all-present and correct family on the front row, as the Kardashian clan arrived in full, it's prize baby included.
A further Paris talking point came from another new youngster to the industry – although perhaps a little more mature than North West, as 14-year-old Dutch model Roos Abels walked for Louis Vuitton, following appearances in Milan for Giamba and Prada – another clever move from Miuccia, it would seem, who coincidentally also closed her show with Lara Stone, another face to return to the industry in recent times.
Kendall Jenner, Emma Ferrer, Gigi Hadid
Back across the pond to NYC and at Hugo Boss and Michael Kors, where Australian Abbey Lee Kershaw and the incredible 36-year-old Maggie Rizer made waves, and New York also saw the steady rise of Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid continue, full force. Both faces were noticable additions in countless shows.
A week before Lanvin's 125thanniversary show news that Audrey Hepburn's granddaughter, Emma Ferrer would appear on the catwalk was announced – which sadly did not come to fruition. However the star, who has also recently covered American Harper's Bazaar sat front row instead.
Elizabeth Jagger, Hailey Baldwin, Ella Richards
We were also surprised by the star line-up at Sonia Rykiel in Paris – it seems that new creative director Julie de Libran decided to collect a famous cast for her introduction to the label. Georgia and Elizabeth Jagger appeared, as did Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid (naturally), plus Hailey Baldwin, Edie Campbell, Ella Richards, the daughter of The Rolling Stones' Keith Richards.
Another new great is the striking Kate Grigorieva who managed a staggering 31 shows
And finally, the Russian girls. The country's star model of the moment, Sasha Luss, turned out to be a little less successful this season than last, appearing in a still staggering 31 compared to 54 shows for AW14 last season, but was inexplicably missing at Chanel and Dior. Another new great is the striking Kate Grigorieva who managed the same number of shows, with true newcomer Darya Yemelianovich hot on both of their runway treading heels, securing an exclusive contract with Balenciaga for next season... Which, it seems, we are already talking about.
