Mario Testino presents Burberry's 'Walk of Style' award on Rodeo Drive
Marking a new flagship
A beige, 3D Burberry plaid stage was set in full view of the four-story flagship across the street yesterday, for Christopher Bailey to accepted the Rodeo Drive Committee's 22nd Walk of Style award from, Mario Testino – the concept's fourth ever winner.
"I've been working for this company 16 years, and humanly they are an amazing company," said Testino, who recently turned 60. The photographer has been shooting the company's campaigns year on year since before Bailey joined.
"When I first joined the company it had to define its brand and they looked to the past and then Christopher arrived and since that day this company has been looking to the future."
Bailey said prior to the event, "It'll be fun to get up there with my mate," and joked about wanting to watch the ceremony from the store's rooftop deck across the street, where several staffers gathered.
"Christopher is such an unpretentious, uncomplicated person. He's simple in the right sense of the word because he's very sophisticated in his mind," said Testino at the store's opening cocktail party afterwards, joined by guests Gela Nash-Taylor and John Taylor and Rachel Zoe and Rodger Berman. "I just saw all of these guys in England at Mario's birthday, and then at Yasmin LeBon's birthday," said Nash-Taylor, "It's been a fun few weeks."
