Vogue Italia's editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani opens the Vogue Fashion Dubai Experience 2014
With an exclusive press conference at The Address Hotel
This morning saw the start of the three day fashion festivities known as the Vogue Fashion Dubai Experience (VFDE) – held at The Dubai Mall and Armani Hotel from October 30 to November 1 – marking the beginning of the celebration of new creative talents, panel discussions and exhibitions ahead.
Formed between Emaar Properties and Vogue Italia, the VFDE was launched in October 2013 with a focus on three main objectives: Positioning Dubai as a global fashion destination, identifying emerging talents and serving as a platform to nurture the upcoming generation of fashion designers.
As day one of the 2014 festivities commences, Vogue Italia's Editor-in-Chief and the Global Ambassador Against Hunger for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), Franca Sozzani, CEO of Emaar Dubai Real Estate and member of the Dubai Design & Fashion Council, Robert Booth and Dubai Director of the WFP, Abdallah Alwardt, sat and welcomed guests to the opening of 2014's VFDE.
Mr. Booth started the press conference by telling the world's media how this year's edition of VFDE is going to be bigger and better than last year's and how the VFDE concept has grown since 2013. He then went onto thank Ms. Sozzani and her Vogue Italia team for all their hard work and dedication for the last three months, to make these next three days possible. Mr. Booth also mentioned how Emaar Properties wants to make Dubai one of the leading fashion capitals of the world, with the Dubai Mall set to attract 100,000 million people annually after its expansion next year.
Speaking on behalf of the VFDE experience and what it's focus is on, Franca Sozzani said "When we start to do something in Dubai, it's because we want to support the young generation. Dubai is one of the most visited places for retail, but we need to give more support to the younger generation and I think Dubai is the best place to start. It is the ideal place between commercial and creation."
So, with this year's edition focusing on a new fashion generation, the VFDE events will start tonight with the Fashion Catwalk at 7:00pm in Dubai Mall – celebrating the work of eight international designers. This will then be followed by two days of an 'International Talents Showcase' at the Armani Hotel Dubai, and exclusive fashion talks by Franca Sozzani, Suzy Menkes, Peter Dundas and many more.
