Versace releases details of collaboration with singer M.I.A.
Market stall inspiration
New details of the collaboration between Versace and singer M.I.A. have emerged. Mathangi Arulpragasa (the singer's real name) will design a capsule collection for the Versus line. Containing nineteen pieces that M.I.A. dreamt up based on illicit fake Versace goods that she found in London street markets, “the collection includes everything that I love about Versus: it’s frivolous, loud and brazen – and it brings together music and fashion...” explaines the singer turned designer.
Different interpretations of the brand symbols, including jellyfish and Greek letters - are mixed with punchy graphic prints. Patterns in the form of gold medallions also feature and are reminiscent of the mishmash around the market stalls that M.I.A. drew her inspiration from.
