United States to release Oscar de la Renta postal stamps
Honouring the designer
Remembered for dressing first ladies and A-list celebrities, the late fashion designer, Oscar de la Renta, will continue to be celebrated through a series of new stamps that have been issued by the US Postal Service. Available in 2017, the designer's stamps will come in a series of monochrome portrait images, as well as 10 coloured stamps that will feature his most famous gowns.
"The new year is shaping up to be exceptional as the Postal Service continues to produce stamps that celebrate the people, events and cultural milestones that are unique to the history of our great nation," said Mary-Anne Penner, Director of Stamp Services at the US Postal Service.
In 2014, the world mourned the passing of the Dominican-American designer who was considered one of the most successful designers in fashion's history. His iconic 50-year career saw the eponymous designer dress women including Laura Bush, Sarah Jessica Parker and Amal Clooney, who wore the designer's coveted creation for her wedding to George Clooney.
Another collectable is the Queen Elizabeth postage stamps, which were issued to celebrate her 90th birthday.
