My Farewell Message
"After 25 years Tuesday was ''my fashion day'' at the International Herald Tribune.
Now it is over: the excitement of sniffing out stories like truffles; the dashes to the printer with film from each catwalk in the 1980's; the first Karl show for Chanel; the sparring between modernist Armani and flashy Versace; Tom Ford's sexing up Gucci (my mother's shoemaker!); the shock of Miuccia Prada's ugly aesthetic; the joy of Galliano's louche grandeur; McQueen's disturbing vision of bones, bird wings and edgy beauty.
The digital camera, rocking fashion across the world in nano seconds changed everything. So has social media, bringing fashion not just to dedicated followers, but to absolutely everyone.
But change is good. It is the essence of fashion. And my move to Conde Nast as International Vogue Editor fills my heart with joy.
Watch this space from June 2nd on."
