Style.com will not become a fully-fledged retailer
The digital magazine discloses eCommerce plans
Following the initial announcement that it would transform into an eCommerce platform and relaunch later this year, further details concerning Style.com's huge makeover have been revealed.
Style.com as we know it now will cease to be and an eCommerce "marketplace" will replace it under the Condé Nast umbrella. Online shoppers will be able to make their purchases on the Style.com site, but it will be the brands that will provide product details and fulfil order requests – with Style.com receiving a cut of the profits.
According to a report by WWD: "Franck Zayan, president of global e-commerce at Condé Nast and Condé Nast International said Style.com will be a marketplace in which brands will provide information on their products. Style.com will handle the transactions, and the fulfillment will be done by the brands. Customers will not be directed to the brands' sites, and Style.com will not charge the brands to appear on the site, Zayan said, but the publisher will take a commission on the transaction."
