"I understand his past is his past" – Stefano Rosso on John Galliano
And the future is now
Suffice to say that John Galliano's fascinating career path has been turbulent. And now, since his recent assignment at Maison Martin Margiela, his new CEO has some advice for those watching and passing comment... Judge the designer by his future collections over his past.
At WWD's Apparel and Retail CEO Summit in New York held yesterday, Stefano Rosso, CEO of OTB, the fashion conglomerate that controls Margiela, addressed his decision to recruit the controversial designer – marking Galliano's permanent return to the fashion industry following his infamous Dior dismissal three years ago.
"My advice is to see what he is going to deliver"
"Honestly, I believe John Galliano is a talent. That is the only thing that we see into him," said Rosso. "I understand his past is his past and we as a group don't comment on the past. What we do really like to comment on is the future of John Galliano, and we believe the best and only way to do so is to see his next collection. My advice is to see what he is going to deliver, and I would like you to judge us for his collection, his couture collection in Paris. That is the only thing we feel is the right thing to say right now."
