London Fashion Week: Temperley London Spring/Summer 15

An evolution

Alice Temperley aimed to present a collection that is wearable with a strong contemporary edge for Spring/Summer 15 and it's safe to say she did just that...

''Now is a time of evolution at Temperley London..." creative director Alice Temperley MBE wrote in her show notes. Adding: "Having merged Alice by Temperley into our mainline collection Temperley London, I am very excited to be able to focus on a full day-to-evening offering in a relaxed, modern and versatile style, while staying true to our British heritage." At yesterday's London Fashion Week show Temperley presented her new vision for the brand, which has undergone some changes of late – CEO swaps included.

Suiting was a key focus for the brit, who presented tailoring in soft sculptured lines and "layered to create an effortless silhouette with femininity." The aforementioned 'femininity' was further accentuated by Temperley's rich fabric choices – rich jacquards, ornate detail and a fresh colour palette were all present.

For the first time in the brand's history, the lineup featured a super sporty vibe – with tailoring paired alongside lace-up trainers – a look the designer wore herself for the finale. Alice also took inspiration from Japanese Shunga ink paintings, "...and the patterns of woodblock prints illustrated through the rich juxtaposition of checks, stripes and abstract marine life across silks, knits and embroidery."

The eveningwear was about the only section that had the "old Temperley" in it – the fluid shapes of the gowns recalled past Temperley London collections, this time done in a palette of summer pastel hues and lattice artwork inspired by the sea.
