New York Fashion Week: Prabal Gurung Spring/Summer 15
Reaching the mountain peaks
Working on his new collection, Prabal Gurung seemed to keep in mind the natural landscape of the Himalayas – with his latest collection reaching new heights. What Prabal Gurung showed yesterday was an extended vision of what he did for Fall. ″I wanted to continue the journey,″ he said. ″This time it′s more a visual diary of her trek up the mountains.″ Using a palette of warm sunset hues, silhouettes were asymmetrically draped, exposing the skin of shoulder or a hipbone, meshing together a sporty and couture effect.
Keeping volume minimal and more athletic, femininity was created using embellishments from embroidered multi-coloured sequin dresses – which mimicked the complex pattern of layered rocks – to mini dresses stitched with different strips of coloured fabric. Gurung also used a mountain motif print and ruffles combined with thin little bursts of stitched feathers.
Closing the designers stylish trek on the runway was a series of evening dresses that delivered drama and elegance in the purest of ways, as strapless gowns were topped with cropped racerback tanks and chiffon trails.
