NYFW: J. Crew, Vera Wang, MM6 Maison Martin Margiela and Diesel Gold SS15
Highlights from the front row
The mass-market American label is taking the lead from a kind of downtown street style for its next season. J. Crew is taking its preppy look off the agenda and shaking things up with unexpected twists and turns, with the use of layers and accessories for good measure.
MM6 Maison Martin Margiela
There was a formal cowboy feel to some pieces on the runway for MM6 Maison Martin Margiela yesterday, as the label presented a fair amount of suede and black suiting with fringe, patchwork details and, as we would expect, an emphasis on denim. There were also Geisha platforms in the footwear department and oversized, tied at the waist silhouettes.
Pretty prints and an element of chic embellishment made Vera Wang's SS15 offering a success this season, and a series of mini-length, kick-out skirts in the middle of the show lightened the sometimes slightly dark (dare we say 'goth') undertones for some of the other looks on show.
Diesel Black Gold
Typically an all black-and-white collection for the label that 'metal' is also deemed a colour, it was a delight to see looks in hot red for SS15. And there was another unexpected twist: anticipating stilettos or clunky motorcycle boots, this collection instead, featured modest, low sling-back kitten heels...
