New York Fashion Week: Alexander Wang Spring/Summer 2015
Inspired by the world of famous sports brands, the line infused high fashion, function and most importantly Alexander Wang's trademark - comfort.
Nike's famed Flyknits were reimagined as stretchy body-con dresses in bright colors, while the signature white and green colourway of Adidas' Stan Smiths became tennis dresses. The silhouettes were sporty, streamlined and sculpted to the body, all stitched from fun, technical fabrics which sprung from the materials of trainers.
Going back to basics – think of Wang in his early days of 07' and 09' – the collection's looks ranged from slimming high-waisted pants with black mesh tank tops to pleated white skirts with a green leather collar jacket that had puffy sleeves and lace holes on the zipper's edge.
With a mostly monochromatic collection, the SS15 accessories provided the looks with just enough colour, as heels came in blue and pink, and handbags subtly took the shape of a trainers sole.
So, as day two of New York Fashion Week came to an end, Alexander Wang solidified his place in the new generation of great American designers, giving us a collection that's beautifully modern, young and wearable.
