Sergio Loro Piana dies aged 69
A family legacy
Sergio Loro Piana, one of the vice Presidents of luxury cashmere clothier Loro Piana SpA, passed away last night at the age of 69. Him and brother Pier Luigi Loro Piana had headed the family owned company until the time of its sale to LVMH in July. The Loro Piana family have been involved in the wool and fabrics trade since the early 1800's. During the 1940's Franco - the father of the brothers - began exporting and distributing luxury fabrics to international markets. The brothers took over the family legacy during the 1970's and developed the business into a luxury retail brand. Following its sale the brothers still continued their involvement in the company as Vice Presidents, owning a 20% share of the brand.
