Rihanna trademarks her surname in preparation for business expansion
Gucci, Chanel, Prada... Fenty?
Madonna, Kylie, Britney, Gisele, Beyoncé – Rihanna. The one name celebrity is so powerful and famous that there is no need for a surname. Across the world, the words "Elvis", "Oprah" and indeed "Rihanna" are instantly familiar.
It is then perhaps a strange move that one of the members of the one-name-celebrity club have trademarked their surname... Today it has been reported that 'Robyn Rihanna Fenty' has purchased the trademark for her surname, leading to speculation that the River Island collaborator is about to launch her own fashion collection. We can only envisage a Moschino-esque take on Fendi at present – mostly at the revelation that the iconic pop star's surname is so very fashion.
According to trademark documents, Rihanna has assigned the trademark to a range of categories including clothing, swimwear, lingerie, beauty, cosmetics and nails.
One thing is for sure: Since Rihanna left Instagram she has been incredibly productive.
