Milan Fashion Week: Prada Spring/Summer 16

Subverting traditional classics

Miuccia Prada added an eccentric twist on traditional classics for Spring/Summer 16, presented last night at Milan Fashion Week. See the full details of the lineup here…

Sadly, Miuccia Prada was not able to make it to the Spring/Summer 16 presentation of the Prada collection at Milan Fashion Week, due to the passing of her aunt. However, her aesthetic was fully present in the collection last night, to which design director Fabio Zambernardi referred to as "subverting traditional classics" backstage.

Challenging classic notions of chic, the collection was clean and sophisticated, showcasing Miuccia Prada's take on sartorial polish. Tailoring took front and centre stage with suiting and dresses that featured dropped torsos.

The eccentricity of the collection began with a slick of gold lipstick that only added to the tweeds and slick shiny stripes of leather and snake. Taking a new direction, away from spring's sweet cotton-candy shades, the colours felt more grounded in rich earth tones, amplified later with saturated pops of green, yellow and orange.

With her global view on fashion, Miuccia Prada takes no notice of weather-appropriateness, therefore the collection carried out suedes, tweeds, leather and even fur for spring.

Details appeared in out-there yokes, overlays of colourful fishnet and spangles that added a DIY finish to the prim pieces beneath, as layered textures played a major part in the Spring/Summer 16 collection.

Upping the ante, Miuccia Prada polished off her looks with earrings that dangled what came close to Christmas baubles off of the ears of the Prada girls that set stride down the runway. Shoes appeared in the form of elegant low-heeled, ankle-strapping, pointed toe numbers that came accented in metallic leather, patent and suede.
