Paris Fashion Week: Saint Laurent Autumn/Winter 14
A strong and charming show that paid a respectful nod towards the work of Californian artist John Baldessari (as featured in the show's invitation booklet) walked the runway in Paris last night for hostiric house Saint Laurent, and it came as quite the transformation for creative designer Hedi Slimane.
It is, therefore, little surprise that Baldessari is the master of 'appropriation', an artform that repurposes preexistent or found imagery to create something new.
The silhouettes were kept short and shiny, in Lurex tweeds, sequins and glitter-dipped boots. Sparkling jackets were thrown in a nonchalant fashion over mini-dresses, and capes were featured too. The final looks saw clear references to the house's 'Le Smoking' history, with sharp neckties and defiantly masculine appeal.
