Paris Fashion Week: Kenzo Spring/Summer 15

The future is now...and denim

Humberto Leon and Carol Lim of Opening Ceremony decided to deliver their Spring/Summer 15 collection with a special message this year, and that was that “Kenzo would like to remind you that there is no Planet B. Protect what’s precious.”

As guests sat down in an urban skatepark venue, the same eco-friendly message was said repeatedly – in several languages – by a female Kenzo avatar on large digital screens dotted around the concrete runway. However, unlike Stella McCartney's Green Carpet collection, the environmental aspect was taken in more abstract terms, as Leon and Lim, presented a collection of exaggerated silhouettes, slick space-age eyewear and a slightly monochrome colour palette.

Leon and Lim described the pieces by using words like "Energy," "Lightness," "Purity", "Air" and "Clean". Successfully translating their vision onto the runway with refined shapes and sporty details.

Using an variety of different volumes, stand out looks included an oversize denim jacket worn over a full skirt in a lace that spelled out Kenzo. While more eveningwear looks included a long navy tailored jacket with a rubber lapel and an abstract-print long sleeve dress that was worn with slick, laser-cut brogues. And even if the duo's new collection did not save the planet, it provided its audience with a clean new energy.
