Paris Fashion Week: Balmain Spring/Summer 15
The artist's new palette
Sending his girls down the runway in looks that could have jumped right off of Pieter Cornelis "Piet" Mondrian's canvas', Rousteing said he was inspired by strong women who refused to be censored – such as friend and muse Rihanna, whose look at an after-party of his last show was a direct inspiration.
There was certainly a lot of skin on show, yet potentially the couture craftsmanship and artistic references resulted in wide eyes of joy, rather than judgement, from the front row. Importantly there was not even a whisper of the military vibe associated with Rousteing and Balmain, and instead the collection was fresh, very new and very bold.
Painting his model's with the same brush strokes of Mondrain in black, red, blue, yellow, white, the 28-year-old designer played with geometry and shapes – ensuring the belts were a flattering wider girth than the shoulders, the pants high-waisted and elongating and the swagger of his illustrious muses' was present.
