Paris Fashion Week: Hermès Autumn/Winter 14
Laid back luxury
Hermès Creative Director Christophe Lemaire revealed that Persian carpets, the Russian steppes, as well as the Silk Road (an East-West trading route), were amongst his inspirations for Autumn/Winter 14.
The collection was largely focused on outerwear – a trend which has presented itself across an array of catwalks this season – but with Hermès the look is more subtle, a collection in which the luxurious materials and craftsmanship does all the hard work.
The show opened with a thick, blanket-style oatmeal coloured cashmere coat, the simplicity continued on to delicate dresses and skirts. The silhouette was very relaxed, especially in the presentation of suits – which the sophisticated Hermès woman prefers to be oversized, with a touch of masculine charm. To punctuate the flow, thin crocodile belts were teamed with a variety of dresses, coats and vests; while chunky heeled sandals, styled with ankle socks and sometimes without, polished off a powerful edit of refined elegance.
