The Oscars 2015: The Best of the Red Carpet
Jennifer Lopez, Emma Stone, Lupita Nyong’o and more
For over eight decades, the Annual Academy Awards: The Oscars, has been one of the world's most iconic, and most highly-anticipated red carpet fashion events. It is of course a celebration of film, but since the first Oscars red carpet was rolled out at the 33rd Academy Awards on April 17, 1961, at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium – it became a fashion event.
Designers have, for many decades, featured gowns in their collections especially with the awards season in mind – and none are as impactful and important as The Oscars.
So which designers will be smiling this morning thanks to the unrivalled publicity of an A-list actor or actress wearing their creation? Many. Lebanese designer Elie Saab provided the looks for two of the best dressed stars: Jennifer Lopez looked radiant in a nude, crystal-embellished Haute Couture full-length gown with a plunging neckline and Emma Stone showed some leg in a green hued Haute Couture number.
Julianne Moore wore a white strapless custom Chanel sequined gown and Suki Waterhouse opted for a crimson red silk organza frock by Burberry. 46-year-old Jennifer Aniston proved that 'age ain't nothing but a number' and looked like a goddess in a nude, draped Atelier Versace gown. Scarlett Johansson also opted for Versace, posing in a deep green body-hugging gown with a matching statement necklace.
Meryl Streep sidestepped the popular dress-code, and flaunted her sass in some Lanvin monochrome suiting. Marion Cotillard wore a unique Dior number, which gathered at the back, sexily pinned at the top of her legs with a black strap that allowed for a magical train of white textured fabric to fall behind her like a waterfall.
Lady Gaga showcased her inimitable approach to style, wearing a bespoke Azzedine Alaïa white gown with bright red, leather gloves – which the 28-year-old pop star noted were "Azzedine's idea". Whilst a pregnant Keira Knightley looked ethereal paring a nude Valentino Haute Couture dress, which was embellished with florals and quotes about love, with Chanel jewels.
Lupita Nyong'o selected a mesmerizing Calvin Klein dress, which was custom-made for the actress and appeared as if she was draped in a larger-than-life pearl necklace – the breathtaking gown was created using 6000 pearls.
