Diary date: Off-White's Virgil Abloh will get his own exhibition in 2019
Mark your calendars for June 2019
What a year it's been for Virgil Abloh. From hosting an exclusive event at London Fashion Week with MyTheresa.com to delivering a lecture at Harvard University, sharing his story with System Magazine — Buro 24/7's editorial partners — and being awarded the Urban Luxe Award at The Fashion Awards 2017, the Off-White designer is the name to know in fashion.
Abloh's extensive body of work is set to be recognised with a retrospective at Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art, a fitting destination given the city is his hometown. While we excitedly wait for the exhibition's doors to open in 2019, Buro has the scoop on what to expect.
The contemporary show will feature a curated edit of Abloh's clothing collections — which have been listed amongst the top fashion buys for 2017 — along with pieces from his collaborations with graphic designer Peter Saville and footwear giant Nike. You can also expect to see a selection of unique furniture designs, too.
According to the exhibition's press notes, "a full program of youth-oriented programming and cross-disciplinary offerings that mirror the artist's wide interests" will support the retrospective.
The exhibition is slated for a June 9, 2019, opening. Stay connected to Buro 24/7 Middle East for more on Abloh's upcoming runway shows in January and March. In the meantime, find out which other maison is set to stage a must-see exhibition.
