Nicole Kidman, Ewan McGregor and Baz Luhrmann unite for Tod's in New York
A night to remember
Thirteen years ago, Nicole Kidman famously starred in Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge! alongside co-star – and now sometimes Broadway actor Ewan McGregor, with the movie musical becoming a cult favourite – and launched them both to a new level of celebrity.
This week in New York, the pair, plus director Baz Luhrmann, reunited in Manhattan at the Upper East Side French restaurant Le Bilboquet, marking the first time in a while they’d all been together in the same room, though no one could figure out for exactly how long.
Kidman had just returned to New York from London, where she premiered the new thriller Before I Go to Sleep rather than fashion week, but accepted the invitation of Tod’s Diego Della Valle for the reopening of the brand’s Madison Avenue store.
“I’m very partial to Italians,” Kidman explained. “I’ve loved Italians ever since I was 17 years old and I travelled to Rome and met my first big group of Italian men.”
Luhrmann lives in New York with costume designer Catherine Martin and their children – and just happens to be the Tod’s chief’s neighbor in the West Village. “I heard that Nicole and Ewan were here and I wanted to surprise them because I’m never around,” Luhrmann said. “I thought, ‘I’m going to sneak up on them,’ and I did.”
