Miu Miu, Balmain and Balenciaga Pre-Fall 15
As Haute Couture fashion week is well underway in Paris, and the menswear shows begin to trail off – the Pre Fall 15 collections continue to permeate our fashion radar. Yesterday three heavy weights: Miu Miu (pictured above), Balmain and Balenciaga all premiered their new inter-seasonal collections for Pre Fall 15.
For Miu Miu Pre-Fall, Miuccia Prada showcased her newest ready-to-wear offerings in a witty installation at the Palais d’Iéna, with Prada integrated elements inspired by images of 1920s boy scouts and Scotland Yard detectives. The collection was a juxtaposition of masculine silhouettes and sixties upholstery fabrics that were undeniably feminine. Miu Miu’s new bags were also made from graphic leather prints, as bold caps along with floral knee socks and decorated mary janes provided the lineup with youthful flair.
Adding some romance to his Pre-Fall designs for Balmain, Olivier Rousteing introduced his first floral print for the French fashion house this season. The pretty motif of anemones and buttercups in bright red or blue were printed across velvet jackets with matching dresses, as well as on maxi gowns and Rousteing's favourite palazzo pants. Using seventies Parisian glamour as his base for the new collection, chic and generous proportions were seen throughout the lineup along with chunky embroidery and fairy-like fringe.
Sophisticated street chic was the running theme for Balenciaga's Pre-Fall 15 collection designed by Mr. America, Alexander Wang. Parisian elegance and stateside cool were seen across leather trench-coats, shirred mink T-shirts and bombers, along with fuzzy chunky cardigans worn over fluid pencil skirts. Black leather gloves with silver hoops and pointed booties also played a main role in the city style aesthetic.
