Mercedes-Benz is apparently threatening to break ties with New York Fashion Week (NYFW) after a 5-year partnership according to a source close to the matter: "Mercedes may walk," a highly placed individual in New York fashion told the Hollywood Reporter. "But I doubt it."

The IMG-produced fashion week is said to be on the lookout for new sponsors and partners and is planning a complete revamp for the not-so-distant future. These plans could include another change in venue – after NYFW moved from Bryant Park to the Lincoln Centre four years ago, IMG is said to be looking at new venues in Downtown Manhattan.

"The general consensus is that it's just not cool to show at Lincoln Center," a long-time insider told the The Cut.

The Lincoln Center is often criticised for being 'too accessible' and 'not innovative enough.' Many of the Big Apple's top designers show off-schedule and at the most recent NYFW in September, a big Hollywood publicist was overheard as saying "I would only let my actresses go to London or Paris shows. New York's just not as important or A-list."

Whether the event, officially known, as 'Mercedes Benz Fashion Week New York' will undergo the changes rumoured, only time will tell. Addressing the speculation, an IMG spokesperson said: "Mercedes-Benz is a valued global partner of ours across fashion, sports and several WME-IMG properties, including Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York, where they remain our title sponsor."
