Louis Vuitton to pop the trunk on its heritage with new exhibition
‘Volez, Voguez, Voyagez — Louis Vuitton’
The travel-seeped history of Louis Vuitton is to be explored in a new exhibition, curated by Olivier Saillard, at Paris' Grand Palais, set to open this December and run through until February next year.
The – Volez, Voguez, Voyagez – Louis Vuitton – exhibit will examine the early roots of the brand, showcasing the origins of the elegant travel trunks that sparked the fashion house's indelible mark on the world.
The showcase will journey back to the company's 1854 founding year, as Saillard has immersed himself in the Louis Vuitton archives. Vuitton's chief executive, Michael Burke, has said that the showcase will "decode [Vuitton's] secrets" and bring a "fresh vision of our past, present and future."
Working alongside Saillard, Robert Carsen will create the set design for the display, which will take up nine rooms of the palace's Salon d'Honneur. The exhibition will cover classic and eccentric trunks, the evolution of travel, craftsmanship and Vuitton's modern identity.
