New York Fashion Week is revealing the results of a very British creative partnership this week, as Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley's first collection for Marc Jacobs approaches

During a year in which the designer announced his own departure from Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs also passed on the creative responsibility of his diffusion label, Marc by Marc Jacobs, to slightly less media attention.

The new creative team in place, however, are far from unknown to the fashion industry. British duo Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley take the reins as creative director and design director respectively, while Jacobs takes a back seat.

Creative director Hillier has been an influential name to know for many years, often collaborating with Jacobs on his accessories lines and more recently Victoria Beckham's successful bag launch. It has been reported that Hillier, who was hired directly by Jacobs, immediately thought of Bartley for the other role. The pair had worked with previously together on the Bartley's own label, Luella, before it ceased trading and she retired to a quiet life in Cornwall with her family and husband, fashion photographer David Sims.

The two women are actually old friends and part of a group of London fashion school Central Saint Martins graduates – the group also includes designer Giles Deacon and LOVE magazine editor and stylist Katie Grand – who came to prominence in the early 00's each with their own playful senses of style.

The move to hire Hillier and Bartley is the first time that anyone other than Jacobs has had creative control over any part of his brand, "I'm very excited to have Katie here in her new role," he said at the time, "Her creativity and energy inspires me and everybody she works with." The proof of which will be revealed this week...
