Julie de Libran's new Artistic Director position at Sonia Rykiel
The French knitwear label taps Marc Jacobs' right-hand woman
Famed Parisian knitwear label Sonia Rykiel has announced that it has hired Louis Vuitton's Julie de Libran as its new Artistic Director, effectively immediately. De Libran use to work under Marc Jacobs at the French fashion house, where she also oversaw the brand's Cruise and Pre-Fall collections.
"She was such a powerful woman and she created such a style. I liked that she was a woman designing for women," De Libran told a source of Rykiel, whose iconic pieces her mother wore when she was a child. "She was as important for me as Saint Laurent in the Seventies. I'm confident. I just want to make beautiful, desirable clothes. I think there's a space. There's also so much to do in shoes and accessories."
The French-born, Californian-raised designer spent 10 years working under Miuccia Prada in Milan, and also worked at Versace, Jean Charles de Castelbajac and Gianfranco Ferré, before her arrival at Vuitton in 2008.
De Libran will oversee all categories of the chic label, including the second line, Sonia by Sonia Rykiel; accessories, homewares and childrenswear.
