A preview of Jean Paul Gautier's exhibition at London's Barbican
Showcasing the designer's 40-year career in fashion
This week, the 61-year-old French designer showed his appreciation for British culture as he posed next to a Queen Elizabeth impersonator at the private preview of his new exhibition, The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From The Sidewalk To The Catwalk.
The fashion-filled evening also saw editor in chief of British Vogue Alexandra Shulman, international British iconic writer Suzy Menkes, designer and muse Farida Khelfa and many others.
Celebrated for his avant-garde designs, this will be the first major exhibition honouring 40-years of creativity by the legendary designer. The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From The Sidewalk To The Catwalk, will feature over 140 couture and ready-to-wear pieces from throughout the designer's boundless career - most of which came from the designer's personal collection.
The exhibition will also display Madonna's now iconic conical corset, which the singer wore on stage during her 1990 Blonde Ambition tour. Pieces by worn by Kylie Minogue and Dita Von Teese will also be on show.
The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk runs from April 9 to August 25 at the Barbican Centre, London.
