New York Fashion Week: Jason Wu Autumn/Winter 15
32-year-old Taiwanese Canadian fashion designer Jason Wu often uses words that "stir" him as the springboard for his creations, and for Autumn/Winter 15 the young talent was inspired by strength and seduction. Using his powerful 'watchwords' as a starting off point, Wu wanted to design for “this superstrong woman, really glamorous, seductive."
The designer also wanted to ensure that there were many multipurpose, wearable options amongst all of the glamour, and the result is a collection that is sassy – but incredibly versatile. Using clean, nineties-inspired silhouettes, Wu injected his pieces with modern-day swagger employing a colour palette of sultry reds, glam golds, greys, blues and nudes.
“When you invest in a piece you really want it to be multifunctional,” Wu noted backstage, speaking of his outerwear pieces for the Autumn/Winter 15 season – which can be worn in three different ways.
After a handful of seasons of creating with other jewellery designers, Wu also decided to incorporate his own jewellery designs to the edit for Autumn/Winter 15 for the first time. Using the hardware on his covetable handbags as inspiration, Wu explained that he wanted to create "a minimal statement for costume jewelry taking inspiration from fine jewellery. One pearl with something quite modern and reduced felt right."
