Is Marios Schwab designing Maison Martin Margiela?
Speculation surrounds the secretive label
Martin Margiela has always been a mystery, with only a chosen few aware of his real identity. The legendary designer has always hidden his face, refusing pictures after each show – even to standing ovation. And in 2009, he officially retired.
The owner of the brand, Renzo Rosso has said: "Martin has not been with us for a long time. He may have seemed to still be involved, but in fact he is not. We have a team of new young designers now. We play on their youth and vitality."
The media has since stirred up speculation that Greek designer Marios Schwab is working for Maison Martin Margiela. When asked by journalists from WWD, the fashion house would only say that they do not discuss the individual designers who make up the creative team. Schwab's representative has also refused to comment.
Interestingly, Renzo Rosso was spotted in attendance of the most recent Marios Schwab show in London with Maison Martin Margiela managing director, Giovanni Pundzhetti. However for now, a partnership with Schwab is something they officially deny.
