The man who essentially gave the world the classic polo shirt will now be celebrated at the highly anticipated fashion event.

American fashion designer Ralph Lauren is set to join Karl Lagerfeld, Anna Wintour and Manolo Blahnik as recipients of the Outstanding Achievement Award by the British Fashion Council. The award will be officially presented during the upcoming 2016 Fashion Awards on December 5 at London's Royal Albert Hall.

"Ralph Lauren is an exemplary designer and businessman," said Dame Natalie Massenet, Chairman British Fashion Council. "He has helped to define an era in both American and global fashion with his singular vision; I know that most of us would say he has inspired us immeasurably. He has built an outstanding legacy and I look forward to celebrating him for years to come."

In the 50-year history of the brand, Ralph Lauren has shaped American fashion with iconic campaigns helmed by master lensmen Bruce Weber, Shelia Metzner, Mark Seliger and Stephen Meisel. Some of the highlights include Gwyneth Paltrow's Oscar-winning dress as well as most recently, his technology-driven outfits for Team USA during the Rio Olympics. Congratulations Ralph Lauren!
