Last summer, Hermès revealed plans to open two new production facilities in eastern France to meet thriving demand for its luxury leatherwear

Hermès International has announced this week that its latest leather goods factory will be located in the 'Technoland II industrial park' in Montbéliard, and be operational by 2017.

The famously iconic handbag label plans to eventually employ 600 people in the Franche-Comté region, including the 210 artisans at its currently existing factory in Seloncourt.

With bags and saddlery accounting for 44% of Hermès sales last year, the expansion is understandable.

A new Hermès workshop in Héricourt is also planned to open in 2015 or 2016. The region is a focal point of leather goods production, with specialised training dispensed by the Ecole Boudard located in nearby Bethoncourt.
