Crocodile Hermès bag fetches $185,000 at US auction

One haute handbag

Making auction history once again, Hermès has just sold one of its rarest handbags at the Heritage Auctions in Beverly Hills – ranking in $185,000 for the reptilian accessory

The French fashion house's Himlayan Nilo crocodile Birkin bag features 18k white gold hardware and 242 diamonds with a total weight of 9.84 carats, and was sold yesterday to an anonymous buyer at the Heritage Luxury Accessories Signature Auction. The Hermès bag is now the second-most expensive bag to sell at auction after a $203,150 shiny rouge 30 cm Porosus diamond Birkin that sold in 2011 at a Heritage auction in Dallas.

Among the Birkin at yesterday's auction were also 480 handbags from Hermès, Chanel, Louis Vuitton and others.
