Paris Haute Couture AW15: Giambattista Valli
Big and bold
This year marks the tenth for Giambattista Valli's eponymous label, and his Haute Couture Autumn/Winter 15 collection felt like a big celebration. Ample ruffles and voluminous ostrich feathers, literally made for big gowns, with undulating layers of ruffled tulle fabric making statement dresses in ivory and bright coral orange, the weight of which gave the model's an additional cardio workout as they paraded the weighty creations around the Grand Palais show space.
Once again, the emphasis was on evening-wear but Valli showed some more paired-down designs in the form of lean tunic and trouser combinations and sleek collarless coats worn over slim fitting pants. Although not voluminous in silhouette, these received 3D appliqué treatment with dimensional flower, crystal and feather embellishments sewn on.
