Grace Wales Bonner wins LVMH Prize
Fashion's new name
London-based designer Grace Wales Bonner has been awarded the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers for 2016. Bonner and her eponymous label had beaten seven other competitors to receive the star trophy from actress Lea Seydoux, as well as a Dhs1.24 million grant and a full year's mentorship from LVMH.
The jury panel for this year's prize included fashion icons J.W. Anderson, Nicolas Ghesquière, Marc Jacobs, Karl Lagerfeld, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, Phoebe Philo and Riccardo Tisci. "Grace Wales Bonner of Wales Bonner impressed the jury with her soulful work on refined shapes, creating hybrid forms that marry European and African style. I congratulate her for this outstanding achievement," said Delphine Arnault, Director and Executive Vice President of Louis Vuitton.
