Jean Paul Gaultier, MSGM and Manolo Blahnik partner with Eastpak
A charitable collaboration for World Aids Day
Marking Eastpak's fourth designer collaboration, Eastpak Artist Studio is showcasing 16 unique customised backpacks at its new pop-up shop in East London, #MadeforLondon, which will be auctioned on eastpak.com on Monday.
With all proceeds going to the charity Designers Against Aids – with the auction closing on December 21 – each world-renowned designer created a one-off piece using the classic Eastpak Padded Pak'r as their blank canvas, which they then transformed into an artistic and stylish accessory.
Top footwear designer Manolo Blahnik took inspiration from his homeland, Spain, for his vibrant backpack, explaining, "Pompons are a very important part of our culture and often form part of my collections."
French designer Jean Paul Gaultier recycled an embroidered silk bomber jacket from the forties and camouflaged the backpack in it. "This is completely unique... We are doing bags, which is a kind of protection, protection for the protection against Aids," he said.
