Rumour alert: Does John Galliano have a new job with Maison Martin Margiela?
Haute Couture gig
The rumours state that Galliano is to create a Haute Couture line for Maison Martin Margiela, and has already hired a handful of staff for his atelier. Galliano was famously fired by Dior in 2011 after he was arrested and charged with making anti-semitic remarks in a Paris cafe. Since then, the once prominent fashion figure has yet to make his "full" return to the industry.
The Gibraltar-born designer voiced his ambitions to return to the fashion industry in an interview with French newspaper Le Point in June this year, saying: "The new Galliano will be even bigger and better. I love working, it's my therapy. I can draw until four in the morning every night and not feel tired. I've come face to face with my demons, medicine and alcohol. I have rebuilt myself again."
He did make small steps last year after joining Oscar de la Renta for a temporary position – assisting with its Autumn/Winter 13 show... So could this be his long-awaited full-time return to fashion? Something tells us that the house of Maison Martin Margiela, which is famous for its slightly over the top secrecy, will keep us waiting and guessing for a little while yet...
