Gabriela Hearst to be honoured for her sustainable approach

The recipient of the 2018 Pratt Fashion Visionary Award
The Pratt Institute will hold its annual fashion show in May and one designer is set to be honoured at the event...

Sustainability is (rightly) front of mind for many designers now. Consumers and designers alike are becoming far more aware of the impact of fashion on the environment and are making changes to their brands for the betterment of, not only our surroundings, but also the people by whom the clothes are made.

Gabriela Hearst is one such designer, and this May the Uruguay-raised designer will be rewarded for her work.

The Pratt Institute will hold its annual gala on May 3 in New York and Hearst will receive the Pratt Visionary Award on the night. “Fashion has the power to make a difference and Ms. Hearst is a great example of that. Her commitment to sustainability, quality and social activism through her brand is inspiring and serves as a powerful message for our students as they begin their careers,” Jennifer Minniti, the chair of Pratt’s Fashion Department, told WWD.

Monse’s Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia, and Harold Koda are amongst the previous winners of the award, putting Hearst in good company.
